Describe your day job.
I work as a Marriage and Family Therapist two days a week in private practice. Most of my clients are dealing with Post Traumatic Stress issues from childhood trauma. I also run a non-profit.
Tell me about your latest book.
My latest book is Tree Singer. It’s my first fantasy and it’s considered young adult fiction although most of my fans have been adults. It’s about a girl who can help trees grow by singing to them. When the forests start dying, she is called on a quest to find out why. There is adventure, tragedy, friendship, evil, and a bit of romance. Something for everyone.
How do you balance your day-to-day commitments with your writing life?
In my previous career I had to work most weekends, so I decided to dedicate Tuesdays to my writing. I still always write on Tuesday’s but now that my life is more flexible, I write on other days as well. Having a weekly critique group for accountability has been essential to keep me writing. Especially during the pandemic when motivation is low.
What podcast/You Tube channel are you following? If you haven’t listened to Elizabeth Gilbert’s podcast, “Magic Lessons” I encourage you to do so. She has someone who is trying to create in an art form come in for advice, then pairs them with someone who is successful in that field. It is so encouraging!
If you had to spend 30 days living in a book which one would you choose?
I’d love to live in Harry Potter’s world. The magic, Hogwarts, muggles, it is all so incredibly fun. Of course, I would want to be a magical person, not a muggle.
Share a marketing tip that has worked for you.
Joining a writer’s group has been essential. Through a group you not only find people to encourage you but people to help you become a better writer. The side benefit is networking with other writers which leads to unexpected marketing opportunities, like this one. For me, building relationships and sharing resources with other writers is a long view marketing strategy.

But when she feels pain coming from the trees, she finds herself on an unexpected quest, one so dangerous she might never return home.
