Writer Interview-Shawn Grady

 Creative Pursuit:  Writing

Day Job:  Firefighter/Paramedic

How do you balance your creative pursuits with your day-to-day commitments?

I always endeavor to keep my marriage and family first. When all three kids are in school and I’m off work, my wife and I will often go on a run in the morning and then I can usually get in 4-5 hours of writing and be done before dinnertime. We strive to keep the weekends open during the school year for family time and home projects.

What’s next for you?

After completing this three-book deal, it’s been nice to not be on a deadline. But I recently sent a couple proposals off to my agent and am working on things at a more leisurely pace at present.

Celebrity or historical figure you’d like to meet for lunch?

Hard to pick one. Today I’d like to have lunch with Leif Enger, author of Peace Like a River. Tomorrow, Marilyn Robinson. The next day, Cormac McCarthy. Day after that, Hemingway…

Thanks for joining us today. Where can we find out more about you and your books?
